Well, where do I start?

This Blog is about my Musical Journey

I am 30 years old. My name is Greg Johnson. I am going to try and write in this blog at least once a week.
I grew up in a small town in Central Kentucky. I had a semi-hollow body Epiphone double cut away when I was a kid. I'm nt sure where the guitar came from but I remember not having anyone to get me started. It was broken some how and ended up in the trash. I have always loves music and always wanted to play guitar but it never happened. Fast forward to me being 26. I bought a Dean Evo Xm black with a Crate 50 watt Combo amp. I started by playing Metallica riffs and learning a 12 bar blues in E. Just chords no shuffle yet. I ended up selling it and purchasing an Epiphone EB3 bass and earned to play that. I moved to Los Angeles in the middle of 2010 to pursue a career in film and TV. I sold the bass when I moved to L.A. L.A. was pretty cool. It was almost like every where I moved had a guitar or something in my face. In 3 of the five places I lived someone played or had one. So I went and bought an Acoustic bass so I could make music with one of the guys in a house I lived. I ended up selling that for rent money. I was to move back to Kentucky April 1 2011 and then move onto New York to Study some more acting. After crossing the California state line into Arizona for about 15 minutes I received a phone call telling me my father had passed away.  I got back to Kentucky and everything went to shit. I wrecked my car after being back for 2 days. An elderly woman pulled in front of me and totaled my vehicle. I ended up buying a shit truck and it blowing two different engines. Its now a soup can.I bought a Sierra acoustic guitar after being back in Ky for a week. I started playing guitar again. I have been playing pretty hard since then. Bought and sold and wash given some guitars.   I have three I like a lot, and two tube combos I really like. Plus about 7 pedals.  I haven't played much with people yet.  Have yet to do any open mikes or anything. Confidence problems I guess

I used to listen to a lot of metal and rock. I started listening to the white stripes quite a bit . I started digging deeper with some of the songs they were covering and I headed on a Jet Liner straight to the Blues. I had listened to Stevie Ray Vaughn and some cream and Black Sabbath before that. But I started getting Heavily into the blues. SO much so it was almost all I was listening to. I don;t listen to much heavy metal or hard rock Like I used to. Its mainly blues influenced music. I love the blues.

Basically I wasn't happy being an actor. I was on TV and did a few films and it did not make me happy. Playing my guitar and singing makes me happy. I just wanted to be happy playing my guitar on a stage. This blog is me doing what I need to to be happy. I've written a lot of stuff. I've tried to get a band together and it has yet to come together.

I have a 2005 Faded Gibson Sg , a 1982 Gibson Sonex 180 Deluxe  , and a Mexican Fender Stratacaster that was given to me. With some fuzz pedals some overdrive pedals and a 2x12 and a 1x15 tube amps.

I am at work sitting behind a desk thing. I work as a security Guard at UPS. Its a boring shit low Paying job. It with be worth making less than I make now to just make music. Id be happy.

Id love to move to Mississippi and play music down there for a while and soak up and learn as much as I can. Next year I'll be going to the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale,Ms. I emailed the person responsible for booking. So maybe I will be playing in it. I guess that's enough for today. I'll write more later
